Nationals Slot Allocation Policy
Overview
Rio Salado Practical Pistol receives a variable number of competitor slots for each USPSA Nationals event. Because the number of slots and eligible divisions may vary from year to year, a structured system is used to allocate slots in a fair and performance-based manner.
Division-Based Slot Allocation
When a Nationals event includes multiple divisions, Rio Salado distributes its allocated slots across those divisions based on local participation levels.
- Divisions with higher participation during the year will receive a greater share of slots
- Divisions with lower participation will receive fewer slots
- This ensures that slot distribution reflects actual shooter engagement at Rio Salado
Registration Accuracy
Shooters are responsible for ensuring their name, email address, and USPSA number are entered correctly and consistently when registering for each match. Inconsistent information may prevent matches from being properly credited to your record, which could affect your eligibility and ranking.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible to earn a Nationals slot in a division:
- Must be a member of Rio Salado Sportsman's Club
- A shooter must compete in at least 8 matches at Rio Salado in that division during the qualifying year as an active club member
- This represents approximately 25% of the annual match schedule
- Membership status is determined per match based on registration data
- Matches shot as a non-member still appear in your history but do not count toward the eligibility minimum
- For divisions with lower participation, the minimum match requirement may be adjusted downward at the discretion of the match staff
Ranking Method
Eligible shooters are ranked within each division using the average finish of their top 8 match results.
Example:
- 4 finishes of 1st place
- 4 finishes of 3rd place
Average finish = 2.0
Only the shooter's best 8 finishes are used for this calculation (or the adjusted minimum, if applicable).
Tie-Breaker
In the event of a tie in average finish:
- The tie is broken using total accumulated points across all matches shot in that division during the year
- This rewards shooters who demonstrate greater participation and consistency
Slot Awarding
- Slots are awarded in order of ranking within each division
- The number of slots awarded per division is determined by the initial division-based allocation
This system is designed to:
- Reward consistent high performance
- Encourage regular participation
- Reflect division popularity at Rio Salado
- Provide a fair and transparent pathway to Nationals qualification
